Harvey Broome

Harvey Benjamin Broome (July 15, 1902 – March 8, 1968) was an American lawyer, writer and conservationist. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Broome was a founding member of The Wilderness Society,^[2] for which he served as president from 1957 until his death in 1968, and played a key role in the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.^[1] The Tennessee Chapter of the Sierra Club is named the “Harvey Broome Group” in his honor.

Hamani Diori (6 June 1916 – 23 April 1989) was the first President of the Republic of Niger. He was appointed to that office in 1960, when Niger gained independence.

Yana “Yanka” Stanislavovna Dyagileva (Russian: Яна Станиславовна Дягилева; 4 September 1966 – c. 9 May 1991) was a Russian poet and singer-songwriter.

Thomas-Henri Lefebvre (23 May 1927 – 20 November 1992) was a Liberal party member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was born in North Bay, Ontario and became a garage owner and operator by career.^[1]

Arthur J. Bressan, Jr.(* 1943; died 1987) was an American filmmaker.

Although the bulk of his output was in the gay pornography genre, he also wrote and directed Buddies. Released in 1985, Buddies was the first American feature film on the subject of the AIDS pandemic. Other films included Gay USA (1978), an early documentary film about the burgeoning gay rights movement in America that came at a time when that movement was facing backlash from such people as Anita Bryant; and Abuse (1983), a dramatic film about a young effeminate boy who seeks out an older gay man to escape his parents, who torture him in their home.

Bressan died of an AIDS-related illness on July 28, 1987.

Gitta Alpár (February 5, 1903 - February 17, 1991), was a Hungarian-born opera andoperetta soprano.

Gitta Alpár was born in Budapest as Klopfer Regina. At an early age she commenced the study of singing and pianoforte at the Academy of Budapest. Her first public appearance was at age eighteen at the Budapest State Opera House which led to a long contract and her singing all over the world. In 1931, Alpar married actor Gustav Fröhlich, with whom she had a child, Julika. Her first films were made in Germany. The marriage was dissolved in 1935 because Alpar was Jewish and the marriage was illegal inNational Socialist Germany. Alpar appeared on “Hitler’s hit list”, along with Charlie Chaplin and others, in the pages of the anti-semitic book, Juden sehen Dich an byJohann von Leers^{[citation needed]}.

Alpar left Germany in 1933, first for Austria (where the film version of Ball im Savoy was made) and Hungary, then England and eventually the United States, where she continued her singing and film career. She died in Los Angeles.
